Sparrow Nodes Tackle NYC: 5,000+ Miles of Urban Intelligence in Just Two Weeks

New York City, May 2025 — Over the past two weeks, Sparrow Analytics’ mobile environmental monitoring technology has transformed New York’s streets into a dynamic environmental observatory. With more than 5,000 miles of urban terrain covered, Sparrow Nodes are demonstrating the future of air quality intelligence — street by street, block by block.

Mounted on moving vehicles, each Sparrow Node captures real-time data on air pollution, road quality, and more. During this deployment, the nodes scanned over 400 miles daily, producing granular, hyperlocal maps of air quality in neighborhoods across the city. The result? A comprehensive, real-time mosaic of pollution exposure patterns, identifying everything from NO₂ and CO hotspots to surprisingly clean air corridors.

    What We Found:

🔍 Pollution hotspots: Elevated NO₂ and CO levels consistently tracked near dense traffic arteries and logistics hubs.

🌿 Clean stretches: Several areas, including key park zones and low-traffic neighborhoods, stood out as models of urban air quality.

This initiative is powered by Sparrow’s proprietary sensor network, which combines high-resolution mobile sensing, precise GPS tracking, and cloud-based data aggregation. The data is accessible via Sparrow’s suite of APIs — allowing cities, enterprises, and researchers to integrate high-fidelity environmental insights directly into their tools and decision systems.

“We believe data should empower healthier, smarter cities,” said Elshad Hajiyev, CEO of Sparrow Analytics. “Our NYC deployment proves that large-scale, real-time, mobile environmental sensing is not just possible — it’s essential.”

This successful run is only the beginning. With partners across Europe and North America, Sparrow’s vision is global: enabling every city to access real, street-level environmental intelligence — and act on it.

Air pollution is a well-documented health hazard, contributing to premature deaths, respiratory diseases in both adults and children, cancer, and even sleep disorders. EU and Swiss regulations are progressively lowering permissible levels of particulate matter (PM10, 2.5, 1) and toxic gases such as NO2, O3, and CO. The demand for precise, hyperlocal air quality data is therefore critical.

Sparrow Analytics’ collaboration with Swiss Postis a significant step towards meeting this need. This initiative will initially cover major cities including Geneva, Lausanne, Berne, Basel, and Zurich. This first phase will encompass nearly 100 postcodes and more than 2 million inhabitants, with plans for a nationwide rollout in the future.

Philip Michel, Project Sponsor at Swiss Post: “This project matches well with our vision to power a modern Switzerland with our capabilities. That’s why we work together with Sparrow Analytics.”

    Key Highlights of the Partnership:

Hyperlocal Air Quality Data: Sparrow’s technology will enable the collection of air pollution data at street level, offering Swiss citizens valuable insights into the air quality of their immediate surroundings.

Informed Decision Making: Access to detailed air quality information will empower residents to make better choices regarding their health and lifestyle, such as selecting housing locations or planning outdoor activities.

Community and Innovation Focus: This partnership provides Sparrow with the necessary coverage to expand its services across major Swiss cities.

This collaboration marks a significant advancement in environmental monitoring and public health in Switzerland.

  • Sparrow Analytics seed investment paves way for expansion

Sparrow Analytics seed investment paves way for expansion

Founded in 2021 by Elshad Hajiyev (CEO) and Maxim Interbrick (COO), Sparrow Analytics has developed mobile sensors to be attached to everyday vehicles that scan and measure various urban parameters in real time. In order to strengthen its operations and maximize the impact of its current financing round attracting Ground Capital and Ascending Productions as investors, Sparrow Analytics has defined a comprehensive plan covering the various facets of its business.

With a keen focus on technological innovation, Sparrow Analytics intends to bolster its technical team based in Switzerland by recruiting engineers with specialized profiles. Moreover, the company aims to roll out the next two iterations of Sparrow Node, a pivotal component of its ecosystem. These updates are geared towards enhancing performance, reducing costs, and expanding the array of measurable parameters, thereby solidifying Sparrow Analytics’ position as a frontrunner in the industry. “Additionally, efforts are underway to finalize the patent pending process, safeguarding the proprietary Swiss technology, algorithms, and methodologies honed over the past 3.5 years” says COO Maxim Interbrick.

Building on the strides made since the last angel round in October 2022, Sparrow Analytics is poised to extend its footprint within the realm of global fleets. Plans are underway to penetrate the Swiss market, with imminent updates expected. Furthermore, collaborations with major entities such as a prominent French conglomerate and FedEx fleets underscore Sparrow Analytics’ ambition to cater to diverse markets, including the United States. Exciting partnerships with the Universal Postal Union and discussions with key players like the Austrian Post further accentuate the company’s global reach and influence.

Recognizing the pivotal role of sales in driving growth, Sparrow Analytics is slated to expand its sales team both locally in Switzerland and beyond. The objective is to leverage this augmented workforce to market flagship products such as the Address-based Air Quality Index and personalized AQ reports, thereby tapping into both local and global markets.

    Charting the way for expansion

As Sparrow charts its course for expansion, Switzerland emerges as the primary focus for the initial phase. The company aims to comprehensively engage with and showcase its diverse portfolio of products in the Swiss market. The inaugural step involves the provision of data across various platforms, with a concerted effort to reach the top 10 cities in Switzerland.

Concurrently, Sparrow is poised to solidify its footprint in Europe and the United States. In Europe, the company plans to establish a presence in at least 10 key cities, including but not limited to Paris, London, and Madrid. Simultaneously, Sparrow sets its sights on penetrating the U.S. market, targeting 10 cities, with San Francisco notably among them.

This strategic approach underscores Sparrow’s commitment to strategic expansion, leveraging both regional specificity and global outreach to maximize its presence and impact in key markets. By establishing a strong foundation in Switzerland while concurrently tapping into prominent European and American cities, Sparrow positions itself for sustained growth and success on an international scale.

  • Sparrow in Monaco, unexpected pollution pattern

A quick trip around Monaco with Sparrow was a remarkable experience. Despite its reputation as a paradise destination, the constant problems with air pollution persist everywhere.

It was a reminder that pollution knows no boundaries and can affect even the most spectacular places. This serves as a prime example of how multiple factors contribute to air pollution.

💡 Conclusion: We must prioritise the provision of accurate and consistent air quality information to empower residents of cities around the world to make informed decisions. Together we can work towards a healthier and cleaner environment for all.

  • The Co-Location Comparison continues in Lausanne

The Co-Location Comparison continues in Lausanne

We at Sparrow envision no other way than to be the best at everything. Our professional approach to data validation continues. After Geneva and Basel, Lausanne is our next step.

We have installed 4 x Nodes at 2 stations in Lausanne.
The first station at the Velodrome, the second at Bussigny close to the industrial area and the highway.

This co-location approach, as always, allows us to make a comparative analysis between the Nodes and the reference station respectively.

A report will be ready soon and we will be happy to share it with you.
    Stay tuned.

In the meantime, just look at how our Sparrows even in a complete environment of water and high humidity work without problems and without fatigue …
